North Wales
This is all very new to me; writing a blog, but a few people have said that i should do it. So here goes ;
I have only been in a wheelchair since 2020, my husband and i decided to go away this year, some would say a simple choice, not when your in a wheelchair, hotel rooms are a whole new minefield.
We booked to visit North Wales , the welsh learning school- Nant Gwrtheryn, it was set in an old quarry and had cottages to rent. They had disabled friendly rooms to rent.
On arrival we had to move the furniture around in the kitchen and dining room so i could fit through in the wheelchair properly. There had been no thought about the kitchen, i would not have been able to cook in it from my chair, lucky enough we had other family with us to help.
Then there was a 35 degree ramp down to my bedroom, i could not go down or up this unaided.
there was not enough room to get all around both sides of the bed - wheelchair friendly ?
Fair play the wet room was big enough, although the fittings were a bit old fashioned.
So my first weekend away in 2+ years and my conclusion is why don't they get disabled people to try the rooms before they rent them out, therefore ironing out any teething problems ?!
Instead they leave us trial them and don't really care what the outcome is.
My hope is to find like minded travellers, lets share the ups and the downs, hopefully the good places as well as the bad.
