Mill hotel, Chester (night 1 of our 8 night break) ; 30/07/22
Our next break away was for my husband Andy's birthday, we were heading to Scotland and therefore breaking the travel up along the way.
1st stop Chester , i had never been before and looked forward to seeing the sights.
we had a good journey and once we navigated the back streets near the canals, we found the hotel.
The staff were all very charming and we all relaxed in the bar/garden while we waited for family to meet us.
i had a phonecall from the manager the week before our holiday, to check my health status as they had a broken lift and he just wanted to check which room to give me before my arrival, all good i thought.
Andy went to check the bags into the room - room no.1, Andy could tell that the entrance to the bedroom was too narrow for me to even get in with my wheelchair, so they had to get us another room.
Room no.2 we got in ok, but on further inspection we saw the bathroom door opened up onto the toilet, meaning i could not get into the bathroom, or even to the toilet.
This meant another trip/call to reception, the only way we could have a larger room was to enter the other side of the hotel where there was no lift, we had to sign a disclaimer in case of a fire and accept a non-disabled room, this was the only way i could get a room and toilet for the evening, even though I had booked a disabled access room.
This involved Andy and a member of staff lifting me in my wheelchair up 4 steps onto the bedroom corridor/hallway.
So our 1st night of our break had proven to be stressful.
I will say that the staff did remain helpful and friendly and that the manager did phone me to apologise and gave me a full refund for the room when i returned home.
But i would much rather have got what i paid for and had a stress less evening/start to my holiday.
