Dunalastair Hotel, Pitlochry - day 3-6 - 01/08-04/08
Our holiday was now well under way and we were looking forward to our main stay holiday for Andys birthday - a 5 star hotel ! after a long journey further North we arrived at the hotel, in a very picturesque location.
We were shown to our room, on first appearances all seemed ok.
We arrived in the reception, which for some reason someone had decided to build a 4 foot high desk in , this was even too tall for most able bodied people, but they had no cut-out section for shorter people or wheelchair users such as myself, not welcoming.
On closer inspection, the corridor in/out of our hotel room was very narrow when in my chair, getting in the bedroom was difficult as not enough room , i could not get around the bed adequately and did not have enough room to even get near the wardrobe.
I had to get my mum into help me pack the suitcases back up when we were leaving as i could not get to the wardrobe.
The bathroom was clean and fresh, but the toilet was too close to the sink, remember we need more room when manouvering from a wheelchair. The shower area was very good, having two showers is a great idea, ceiling height and hand held for easier use.
Unfortunately there were no mirrors at my height so i had to request one, to comb my hair in etc.
Getting around the hotel was not too bad, but i had to have help with the door in/out of our room as it was too heavy for me to manage on my own.
Also they had fitted a temp ramp down from the bedroom corridor to the dining rooms/bar area for me, this could also not be managed on my own/un-assisted as it was too steep and i would have ended up crashing through a glass door/wall into the carpark.
As much as we loved the area, this was definitely a 5 star hotel not worth revisiting
